November/December - Volleyball unit focussing on the skills of bumping, serving and setting with some emphasis on game strategies. We will also be playing some European handball and skittle-ball which are excellent lead-ins to basketball.

January to March - Basketball unit focussing on the skills of shooting, dribbling, passing, rebounding and game strategies. We hope to have a Grade 5 boys team and a Grade 5 girls team which will play against other schools in our zone.

April/May - Gymnastics unit. We will start with small apparatus such as mats ond springboard and work our way up to the use of larger apparatus such as the boxes and wall climbing frame. The unit will focus on various balances and transfers of weight which students will use in their sequence demonstration.

May/June- Track and Field - students will practice a variety of track and field events including short and long distance running, long jump, high jump, softball throw and frisbee throw. Grades 4 and 5 students will participate in an all day Track and Field Meet at Rotary Stadium.

Throughout the course of the year students will experience a variety of other activities such as indoor soccer, dance, floor hockey, tag games, strategy games, etc. Activities will be modified according to grade level.

Our 30 minute PE periods typically start with stretching, followed by a 3-4 minute run. We then work on skill development culminating with a related game or other games.

We will again be offering roller-blading in the school gym. Instructors from Kids on Wheels will be conducting the program during the week of Feb. 9-19.

We hope to book swimming lessons for all grades at the outdoor pool in late May or early June. We are very fortunate in that all costs incurred in the swimming and skating programs will be covered by our PAC
